Naturally Dried Superworms
(Not intended for Human consumption)
They look so "alive" that your pets will hardly know the difference...The only dead giveaway (pun intended), is the fun "Cheeto" like crunch your pets will experience with every bite!
Have you always wanted to be able to offer your pet yummy superworms but were afraid to, because you were worried they may get their little mouths bitten in the process of eating them? Have you gotten your pets live superworms, but had to take the time to cut or pull the heads off prior to giving them to your pet for snacktime (YUCK) in order to protect their tender little mouths from a superworm bite?
But now- there is a NEW worm in Critter-town- A Superworm that is a pleasure to feed to your pets, a worm without ANY of the hassles I previously described: Our Naturally Dried Superworms! They'll love them so much that I bet they can't eat just one!
Superworms are a yummy treat for our critters, they're 4 times larger on average than regular 3/4" to 1" in length mealworms, and their chitin is thinner than that of regular mealworms, which make them more easily digested for the pet that consumes them. However, those of use that have offered live supers to our pets, all know what a pain it is to offer them to our little ones for MANY reasons: First, of course is the biting issue I mentioned in the above paragraph. And then you have the issue of finding healthy live superworms to purchase in the first place. Ordering them from a breeder is the best chance of getting healthy worms, but getting them delivered to you alive is harder than regular mealworm delivery because superworms are more sensitive to temperatures than mealworms, so getting live superworms delivered throughout the year can be SUPER hard since they can only be shipped during certain temperatures. Then comes the care part- Live superworms can't be forced into dormancy by storing them in the refrigerator like regular mealworms, which means that you have to care for them on a daily basis by keeping the bedding changed out in order to keep them healthy because you don't want them consuming their own frass when eating the wheat bran bedding- that can make for a very unhealthy super worm. You have to keep fresh food and water for them everyday in order to keep them healthy for your critters. So, let's face it- It is like taking care of another pet in order to have a yummy treat for your true pets! And then I saved the the worst issue of all for last - The SMELLY secretions they omit on occasion, which I am sure anyone reading this who has dealt with live superworms knows exactly what I am talking about!! The adult Zophobas Morio larvae can (and does) secrete a nasty, foul smelling liquid when they are picked up sometimes (a sign that they feel threatened. Ummmm, probably because they know they are getting ready to be pet food) in hopes that it will make their predator decide they may not be very tasty aferall...
As you can see in the picture above of our black bear hammie Pepper chowing down on a dried superworm, they look exactly like when they were alive. You'd never know by looking at them that they are dried because they hold up much better in drying than mealworms (mealworms become very brittle and break into pieces no matter how careful you are). The only reason your pet will know their dried superworm isn't the live version is the fun "cheeto like" crunch they will experience bite after bite! As a matter of fact, the first time Pepper ate one, she was so sure that it was alive when I handed it to her, that she was picking it up with her mouth and throwing it down over and over, trying to kill it like she does with the live ones. And then she finally took a big crunch off of the head (she always eats that part first to ensure she kills it), threw it down, picked it up and took another big crunch to make sure it was dead. and then finished it off. And that was the beginning of a favorite new treat for Pepper (and all of my other many, many critters love them too - almost as much as the live vita-mealies they are so fond of). I'm not sure that Pepper ever realized she didn't kill that first dried worm herself, but after a few fun treats of dried, she wouldn't touch the live Superworms anymore, even though she still prefers live mealworms over dried mealworms. Oh, and one more great thing about the dried superworms, They have more protein than live... Our live vita-supers have 17.41% Protein- Our naturally dried Superworms have 19.30%!
Our dried superworms are shipped to you in a vacuum sealed bag and can be stored a year+ once opened as long as you keep them in a airtight ziploc baggie or container that you can seal closed so air doesn't get to them (air will of course draw moisture to them) , and store them in a cool dry area or in the freezer.
